Stay Positive
Why exercise? Why manage your weight?

Because nothing could be more important than building a better you!!
When you begin a program of self-improvement you’re taking the first steps toward a happier, healthier life. You’ll look better and feel better – both mentally and physically, from the start!
Of course it’s not going to be easy, but be confident that you’ll get there if you keep your attitude positive and stay motivated until you’ve accomplished what you set out to do.
This means having a plan, and not just for what you’re going to achieve but also how you’ll achieve it. A large part of your success will come from focusing on the positive aspects of your life.
Realise that your progress will be gradual. What seems like a very big challenge is really a series of smaller tasks, and each task has to be completed before you can move on to the next. Congratulate yourself every time you complete one of them.
Learn to look in the mirror every day and see the improvements you’ve made. Don’t be critical, but instead look for signs of the new you emerging. See what you’ve already accomplished.
Learn how your body works. Read about how you process food and build muscle strength. It will help you understand the way your exercise and weight management activities are working for you.
Keep records that include the effort you put into your program, not just the statistics of weight and kilojoules but a diary of what you’ve done for yourself each day. It will make interesting reading as you enjoy your progress.

Look around and really see your surroundings. Don’t just walk through your neighborhood; experience the streets, the homes and the people. Realise how amazing it is to see, hear, feel, smell and taste.
Everybody is really good at something. Find what it is that you do well and enjoy doing and share it with others. It could be a sport or perhaps expertise in something technical or mechanical.
Take time each day to appreciate what you already have – health, a home, friends, colleagues at work, books…everything! It’s so much better than wasting time and energy wanting what you don’t have or envying others with more.
Surround yourself with positive people who want to improve themselves and are willing to work towards their goals. Don’t waste your valuable time on those who are constantly complaining or criticising!

And finally, be persistent! Work toward success until you get it, and keep looking for ways to improve the things you do. Focus on what needs to be done, and don’t beat yourself up if you experience a setback…just work harder next time!
